It has been nearly a year since the great exhibition "Greek painters in the Heracles calendars collection 1956-2009" (Benaki Museum, 26 October - 4 December 2011). Then, on the occasion of the loan of 1,472 works from Heracles to the Museum, it was exhibited a representative selection of works from all calendars, aiming to familiarize the public with the breadth and richness of a collection created to feature in the calendars, which is also a great artistic legacy.

This year's exhibition opens a new, thematic cycle of exhibitions which purport to showcase certain undercurrent themes and to bring to light some lesser known aspects of the collection. The landscape is the artistic genre with the largest presence in the calendars; with 29 of the 52 calendars devoted exclusively to landscapes, this theme was the obvious choice for the first exhibit introducing this new cycle. Yet, this year's exhibit will not only feature landscapes; it is build around maps of Greece created by 12 different artists, an independent and original part of the collection, which is presented for the first time in public
