The range of subjects, languages used, authors, nationalities, and memories in this volume reflects the gratitude and admiration surrounding Halet Çambel and her creative role in the progress of Anatolian archaelogy in the field, in the classroom, and resarch laboratory as well as in scholarly discussion. For more than half a century she has pioneered the practice and teaching of prehistoric archaeology as a branch of modern scholarly research. Her own background with education in four lanuages, residence in Berlin, Istanbul, Paris and membership in the Turkish Olympic team in 1936, gave her a cosmopolitan perspective and full partnership in international discussions.
