Mozart's Journey to Prague is one of the gems of German romantic literature, a delightful account of the famous Lcomposer's journey to Prague in 1787 for the first performance of his opera Don Giovanni. The novella was written by the Swabian poet during 1850-51 and first published in 1855. It is characteristic of a major writer who is perhaps best known to non-German readers today for the many settings of his poems by Hugo Wolf.
Eduard Morike (1804-1875) had an outwardly uneventful life as a pastor in small Swabian villages, but fame overtook him in later years as his lyric poetry became known, and many honours were bestowed upon him. (From back cover)
