The book is a study of the demonization of the Doenmes (Crypto-Jews, whose ancestors were followers of the so-called messiah Sabbatai Tsvi), in today's Turkish society and Turkish media. It studies why antisemitic books declaring that "the Turkish Republic is governed by Crypto-Jews" became best-sellers in Turkey and how this mentality had been widely disseminated in Turkey.

The topic of the Dönme, or Sabbateans as they have increasingly been referred to of late, has in recent years grown into a much discussed and hotly debated issue in the Turkish media, so much so that certain journals have devoted entire issues to it and television talk shows have hosted lengthy and repeated debates, with various so-called “specialists” on the subject -as often as not ill-informed conspiracy theorists or antisemites- taking part along side or in place of journalists and academics....
