Asia Minor (Anatolia) has been. studied for centuries by historians and archaeologists. Researches made during the last two hundred years in the Aegean region in particular have added most valuable works to the world's historical and archaeological literature.

For the past two years, the Turkish Government has gradually increased the assistance granted. for improving the Touristic development o f the Aegean coast. Excavations and researches attract a growing number of foreign and local visitors who need short books and. explanations regarding İzmir and the district, as well as maps of the roads and sites.

In order to meet this increasing demand, the Aegean Tourism Association. plans to make such publications as are within its means. We publish,, first of all, The Archaeological Map of Western Anatolia, prepared by Mr. Rüstem Duyuran, hoping that tourists and those who wish to study the history of our region will find it useful.
