Throughout the history, leaders came that reshaped and rewrought the lives of nations.

Some of these leaders had influenced also other nations and gained international prestige, recognition and esteem.

Ataturk is one of these leaders.

The Turkish nation is proud, at the centenary of His birth, to have raised such a personality.

Together with this pride, our nation has recently experienced the sorrow of having seen the quagmire of foul, and even of treason in which his children devoid of Ataturk's guidance were bogged, and the atmosphere of confidence gained by a revival of His ideas and principles.

There are a number of values and ideals which convert a community into a nation, which render millions of people convinced and determined to live together. İf these values and ideals are disregarded in a society it becomes impossible to keep a state together and the final debacle becomes inevitable. For these reasons, Atatürk's principles which imparted a true personality to this nation and which gave a new form and content must be thoroughly understood and inculcated in minds to remain there forever with the value and significance they represent despite the changing and developing conditions of our age.

In view of this need, we as the Turkish Union of Chambers felt it necessary to study, know and expound Ataturk in His capacities of a saviour, a hero and a monument of thought and personality.

The basic principle we have adopted in this approach is the fact that «the truest guide in life is the sciences. This belief has led us to cooperate with several Turkish and foreign scientists. This cooperation has resulted in this book which we believe will attain your interest and approval. In doing so, we believe that we have offered our readers a truly useful service by taking Him with His most valuable side at His centennial. Ending my words here, I wish to thank all Turkish and foreign scientists who have not spared their contributions and to all other officials who have been instrumental in this publication. -Mehmet YAZAR, President (From Introduction)
