As the Housing Development Administration, while carrying out the preparations for the Habitat II Conference, we have tried this international gathering to leave lasting benefits in Turkey. This effort can be seen in many areas, from the construction of conference halls to the establishment of an institution after Habitat II responsible to do a follow up of the decisions taken at the meetings. We are pleased to have been the intermediary in the realization of the project on building a data-bank on Non-Governmental Organizations in Turkey undertaken by the UNDP and the History Foundation on occasion of the Habitat and that a beginning have been marked... ... The transformation of this project, which initially started off merely as a one year-long effort, into a permanent capacity, stands before us as a major challenge.
